May
Just wanted to remind all of you about the upcoming events in Kindergarten. We went to the farm and had a wonderful time. We went on the first walking trip to the Knox Fire Station. The firemen always do a fantastic job with their presentation and they provided the students with coloring books.
Next we will be going to the Knox Post Office on May 21st (the rain date is May 22). Please remember to send in an envelope with the correct postage. We will be mailing a special picture to each student. The envelopes should be sent in to school by Thursday, May 14th. Remember to have your child write their address and use the same address for the return address. Students love getting their very own mail!
On May 26th we will be going to the Knox Public Library.
Please make sure to dress your child in comfy walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather.
Our trip to the Erie Zoo is on May 19th and there is no rain date for that trip. We go rain or shine!

What's Up In Kindergarten!
I can't believe we are into the 4th grading period! Here are the skills we will be working on. We will be: counting to 100, writing numbers to 20, identifying and telling the value of the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter, and telling time to the hour.
We are working on writing our names with the first letter capital and the others lowercase. Students should know their phone number and be able to tie their shoes too!
Kindergarten is always a very busy place! We have many things coming up as well! We are going to the farm on April 30. Please remember to send in your child's permission slip by April 14. Don't forget fill out the slip for a cafeteria lunch if your child will need a cafeteria lunch. We will be eating lunch at the farm. Remember to dress your child for the weather and please wear walking shoes. I love going to the farm! It is so much fun!!!!
We have our walking trips coming up in May! More information about these trips will be coming when the dates are set. If you wanted to be a chaperon for the zoo trip and didn't get chosen I have good news! I will be needing chaperons for the walking trips so I will be in contact with you!

January Is Here!
It is hard to believe that December is here and gone and we are in January already! K 106 will be having a sharing time each Friday where students can share something with the class. If students bring in an item it must fit into their backpacks and they may only bring one item. We just do not have time to share more than one item. Students do not have to bring something to share they may talk about a trip they took, something they made, or show something they are wearing. Share time is a time where students get up in front of their peers and talk. We are always working on ways to improve communication skills!
Monday, January 19, is an Act 80 Day and there will be no school for students that day.
We will begin the "Too good For Drugs Program" in January as well. This program will help students identify safe and healthy practices that will help them meet their health, hygiene and fitness goals.
Report cards will be coming home on January 21st. This a day later that previously announced because of the snow-day we had.
Another Book Fair is coming on January 21. More information will be sent home with students at a later date.
Please dress students for the weather. I would like to take the students out for some fresh air if it is warm enough. Students need to have boots, hats, mittens, and warm coats to be able to go outside. Having recess in the snow is lots of fun! We might even plan a time to go out with our Fourth Grade Buddies!

November
November is here and we are preparing for a busy month. We have Open House on Thursday, November 6, from 6:30 to 7:30. November 14th brings Conference Day! If you would like a conference please send back the conference slip that was in your child's report card with a desired time and I will try to accommodate you. I can begin conferences as early as 7:30 if needed and stay later if it is necessary.
The new grading period has begun and we will be focusing on number skills. We will be reading, writing, and ordering numbers through 10. We will be counting from 0 to 30.
Some of the other skills we will be working on are: saying our alphabet in sequence, identifying right and left, and identifying capital and lower case letters, as well as the sounds they make. Please continue to practice the sight words that are in your child's folder each night. We are making wonderful progress!
Thanks for reading the take home books with your child and signing them too. I have given out more stickers this year than any other year!
One more thing now that the weather is getting colder. It would really help to label your child's coat, hat, and mittens. Sometimes coats fall off of the coat hooks and we have trouble finding the owner. Kindergarten students seem to forget what their coats looks like!
We have fun in K 106!!

We have been learning about the life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly. We had over a dozen caterpillars! It has been very interesting watching the miracle of metamorphosis!
